Strengthening Science–Management Partnerships in the Lake Erie Basin

Above: Staff from the CEM and LEMU share their respective research initiatives to identify future opportunities for collaboration.

The Centre for Ecosystem Management recently met with the Lake Erie Management Unit last month to share updates on ongoing and planned research activities and to learn more about the MNR’s Lake Erie priorities, fisheries management objectives, and current initiatives. This meeting, initiated by MNR Manager Brian Locke, identified several opportunities for future collaboration, including participation in field-based projects, fisheries management planning discussions, and stock assessment modelling activities. The exchange strengthened relationships between the two organizations and established pathways for increased collaboration in support of science-based fisheries and ecosystem management in the Lake Erie basin, including an invitation for our researchers to participate in a variety of field trip - field work opportunities.

We look forward to exploring these opportunities through collaborative research, field-based activities, and applied modelling projects that support evidence-based fisheries management and ecosystem stewardship.
